ProMGR on Android Devices

Android incorporates several layers of security measures to protect user data, privacy, and the integrity of the system. These security layers make Android a highly secure operating system. Let’s take a look at the most relevant Android security aspects:

  1. Regular security updates to keep the system secure against emerging threats (twice a year for AOSP and four times a year for Android Enterprise).

Google Mobile Services & Security

Most of our Android devices run on the Android AOSP and include the aforementioned Android device security features. Google Mobile Services, running on the APPC-10SLBe, provides additional security features, namely:

  1. Google Play Protect, Google’s built-in malware protection system, to help detect and remove harmful apps.
  2. Verified apps to reduce the likelihood of downloading malicious or compromised apps.
  3. Google Services Framework to protect user data while interacting with various Google services.
  4. Device Verification to ensure devices meet certain quality and security requirements.
  5. Google Play Services which provides essential background services and APIs for app functionality and security.

Security on Android devices

Android Open Source Project and Android Enterprise

At ProDVX, we offer two distinct Android versions within our product range to meet the varying needs of our customers: Android Enterprise and Android Open Source Project (AOSP).

Android Enterprise, including Google Mobile Services (GMS), is designed to meet the demanding needs of businesses that require a secure, manageable, and scalable mobile platform. Our APPC-10SLBe leverages the full potential of GMS, ensuring a seamless and secure user experience.

Additionally, our APPC-R23 range is built on the open-source version of Android. Android AOSP offers a customisable and flexible platform for developers and businesses that require a more tailored solution. This Android version provides the freedom to innovate without the constraints of GMS.

Both versions bring numerous benefits, including enhanced security and simplified device management for Android Enterprise, and customisation and flexibility for Android AOSP.

Rooted Android devices vs. non-rooted Android devices

The difference between rooted and non-rooted Android devices lies in the level of control and access the user has over the operating system. For example, rooted Android devices can modify system files or run apps that require deep system access. In comparison, non-rooted devices operate within the permissions and restrictions set by the manufacturer and Google.

Choosing between a rooted and non-rooted device depends on the user’s needs, technical expertise, and willingness to accept the associated risks and responsibilities. However, ProDVX decided to refrain from rooted firmware for the following reasons:

  • Rooting a device often involves bypassing security measures in the Android operating system itself.
  • Rooting can sometimes cause instability and performance issues on the device.
